‘This is such a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of these gifted young people and the sense of possibility that has unfolded in their lives… It is an inspiring cause that deserves the support of every Tasmanian’
The Honourable Julia Gillard MP,
former Prime Minister of Australia
‘There were no tricks, but a burning sincerity of purpose and a profundity in the very simplicity of what was going on. In a word it was a very moving show, and when I joined in the frenzied applause, one of my cheeks was wet’
Review of ‘If I Jumped, I’d Fly’,
The Mercury, Australia
Based in Tasmania, Australia, the Ensemble was founded in 2005 by Finegan and six artists who associate with having a disability, in partnership with Cosmos Recreational Services, and later Is Theatre and the Tasmanian Theatre Company.
While the group has varied in number and make-up over the years (integrating to include people without disabilities in 2007), it retains the same ethos of developing brave performances that are not about disability, but rather human interaction in all its forms. The works have been devised by the ensemble, with Finegan posing choreographic provocations and the performers generating material in response. This material is then structured into performative narratives.
With Kelly Drummond Cawthorn assuming the Artistic Directorship in 2012, the ensemble continues to develop exciting work alongside new artists and organisations.
